Open Glass Studio - Mia Karlsson
Time & Location
About the Event
My studio is essentially a 'one-woman-circus' where I am able to both blow my own glass pieces and then work on them using methods such as sandblasting and engraving. It has a small retail space and I am hoping to create a more proper gallery space in the future. As the hot-working process is very intense and uses up a lot of energy, I currently only start my furnace up once a year for a stint of a few months when I produce my stock for the summer season and the pieces that I wish to do cold work on.
I think I will forever be in awe of glass as a material for creating. As a means of expression. It is such a common, everyday material yet it is so magical! I feel enormously blessed to have taken on the challenge to work with it and to carry on such an ancient and threatened tradition.
